Nagpur News:

The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Nagpur, has gone tough and issued orders making the registration numbers of VVIP, VIP vehicles in four digits. The significant decision by RTO is aimed at curbing the increasing trend of demanding VVIP, VIP like registration numbers by other bigwigs in the society at any cost.

The RTO, accordingly, has sent letters to the Guardian Minister, Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Mayor, Police Commissioner and other dignitaries having Red, Yellow beacons for strictly implementing the new rules and regulations regarding the four digit registration numbers. According to rules, now only VVIP, VIP four-wheeler vehicles would bear the four-digit registration numbers. Till now, the VVIP, VIP registration numbers were like 1, 2, 3 including top Government officials. The private big shots in the society, in order to display their superiority, were demanding VIP-level registration numbers for their vehicles at any cost. The citizens could witness these vehicles running on city roads with VIP-level numbers like 1. However, in today’s sensitive situation vis-à-vis terror activities, the VIP-level numbers could pose hazards.

Now, according to sources, the letters in this regard, have been sent to the Guardian Minister, Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Mayor, Police Commissioner and other dignitaries informing them to change the registration numbers of their vehicles in four digits immediately. The vehicle of Mayor has already undergone the change in accordance with the RTO directives. For example, the VVIP vehicle having registration number 5, will now turn into 0005, 50 will have 0050.

The RTO decision appears to be taken after the recent visit to Nagpur by the Transport Secretary, Government of Maharashtra.
