Nagpur: Significant as well as tough decisions marked the General Body Meeting of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) held on Thursday at Mahal-based Raje Raghojirao Bhonsale Town Hall. The decisions pertained to suspension of Town Planning Executive Engineer Mahesh Gupta, who disregarded directives of Municipal Commissioner and Standing Committee with disdain umpteen times, regularization of aiwazdars (sanitation workers) working since years, appointment of six new members on Transport Committee, approval to proposal seeking Rs 110 crore loan for a water supply project and others. The House was also thrown into turmoil due to lack of quorum twice, once after condolence resolution and the fourth time due to uproar created by BSP members.

The Ruling Party Leader Dayashankar Tiwari raised the issue of continuation of Auto DCR contractor despite contrary directives by Standing Committee and the Municipal Commissioner several times and the resultant loss to the civic body. Tiwari charged that the Executive Engineer of Town Planning Mahesh Gupta flouted the directives in this regard with disdain and showed contempt to the Standing Committee and the Municipal Commissioner. Gupta, who was present in the House, failed to reply to any of the questions satisfactorily. In fact, the tainted official was seen rallying behind the contractor.

His information that the file pertaining to proposal on cancellation of Auto DCR contract has gone missing put the Administration on the edge and also proved his nemesis. Dayashankar Tiwari immediately demanded the Mayor Pravin Datke to order suspension of the ‘guilty’ and ‘irresponsible’ official. The Mayor, after perusing the documents and facts, ordered suspension of the Executive Engineer.
