NMC’s elaborate arrangements for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din celebration

Nagpur: Leaving no chance for inconvenience and hardship, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has elaborate arrangements for lakhs of pilgrims who will attend the 60th Dhammachakra Pravartan Din celebration at historic Deekshabhoomi on Tuesday (October 11).

Water supply:
The Water Works Department of NMC is ensuring non-stop supply of drinking water by setting up a network of temporary water connections at the sprawling premises as well as at other places. Water will also be available for hundreds of temporary toilets and bathrooms constructed in Mata Kacheri, ITI and Deekshabhoomi premises and at other vantage points where the pilgrims are likely to visit. The civic body is ensuring no blockages in the pipeline of toilets and bathrooms, adequate water supply and the areas are free of solid waste as well. Similarly, Water Works Department has been directed to deploy tankers for 24-hour drinking water supply through temporary pipeline connections in the areas. Other necessary arrangements have also been made on the roads leading to Deekshabhoomi such as PVC tanks have been erected at Bajaj Nagar Square, Rahate Colony T-Point, Laxmi Nagar Square, Subhash Nagar Square and at other places.

Sanitation:
The Health Department is maintaining total cleanliness in the areas by providing dustbins, containers, garbage tubs, mobile toilets, and round the clock monitoring of cleanliness activities. The NMC has already cleaned the ITI, Mata Kacheri and Deekshabhoomi premises of wild grass and bushes and the place is being leveled by JCB machines.

PWD works:
The Public Works Department has erected pandals at Blind School, ITI, and at other places for the pilgrims. Barricading has also been done for security point of view at major entry points leading to Deekshabhoomi. The Civic Body has set up a Control Room to monitor any untoward incident and also resolve complaints of devotees. Officials and employees will be deployed at the Control Room round the clock.

Electricity:
The Electricity Department will provide non-stop lighting and other services in Deekshabhoomi premises where the main function of Dhammachakra Pravartan Din is held. Lighting arrangements have also been made at toilets, bathrooms, and at other places where the pilgrims visit. The number of generators will be increased to deal with the situation. Considering that fair goes on through night, the civic body has installed a number of floodlights, tube-lights. The streetlights on roads leading to Deekshabhoomi have been repaired. NMC has also repaired potholes and patches of bad surface layer on Central Bazaar Road and South Ambazari Road.

Fire Department:
The Chief Fire Officer will keep Fire Brigade Department machinery in total preparedness to deal with and avert any tragedy as well. Two fire tenders will be in place in Deekshabhoomi premises for 24 hours. Two ambulances are also being placed to deal with emergency situation.
