NMC’s Budget for 2017-18 likely on June 17

The Chairman of NMC’s Transport Committee Jitendra alias Bunty Kukde would hand over the Transport Department’s budget to Standing Committee probably on June 9. This will set the ball rolling for presentation of NMC’s General Budget for 2017-18 by Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Jadhav in the General Body Meeting which is likely to be held on June 17. The all-party debate on the General Budget could be held on June 19 or 20. The debate would stick to the time allocated to each party.

According to sources, the NMC’s Budget for 2017-18 would focus on completion of ongoing development projects. Tight rope walking is also afoot to spare the citizens of additional taxes. The presentation of budget has already got delayed by three months primarily due to paucity of funds. The general election held in February is also the reason for delay.

The first budget of Transport Committee of NMC proposed to add 25 bio-diesel buses to the existing fleet of city buses during the current financial year. Besides, it proposed to develop bus terminus through public private partnership (PPP). Shivajirao Jagtap, Manager of Transport Department, presented the first budget of the Transport Department to Jitendra alias Bunty Kukde, newly elected Chairman of the committee, in its first meeting held on Saturday, June 3. The budget with Rs 254.56 crore income and Rs 254.56 crore expenditure for the financial year 2017-18 was presented before the Transport Committee that approved the budget presented by the department unanimously.
