    Nagpur:
The Chairman of NMC’s Standing Committee Sandeep Jadhav on Saturday announced One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme to be launched by Municipal Corporation (NMC) for water tax defaulters. The OTS scheme will be undertaken from July 17 to August 7. This is the last opportunity for defaulters to clear their pending dues in the current regime of 2017-22.

Jadhav said the One Time Settlement scheme for water tax defaulters is being launched following demands from citizens and various organisations. The scheme was announced in the NMC’s 2017-18 Budget. Water connections of the defaulters will be snapped after August 7, 2017 if they fail to clear the dues. Under the OTS scheme, interest and penalty will be waived off totally for water tax defaulters. Also, the civic body will lodge FIR against those consumers whose water connections are cut but drawing water from other sources by illegal means, he warned.

The Standing Committee Chairman further said that during the earlier OTS scheme, around 1200 defaulters had cleared their dues in half. Now they will be given a chance to pay the remaining amount. Penalty of such defaulters will also be waived off. “Many of the cheques given by defaulters had bounced. Such defaulters will be allowed to participate in the amnesty scheme albeit with payment of penalty.

He said that amount of Rs 172 crore was due (till May 31, 2017) on 1.92 lakh water consumers in the city. During the last OTS scheme, total 19,700 water consumers had deposited Rs 12.45 crore to civic body coffers.
