Nagpur: The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Ashi Nagar Zone on Friday caught Siddharth Pathology Lab, owned by Dr Archana Meshram, dumping bio-medical waste on the footpath near the busy Dus Number Pulia and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The clinic and pathology lab has been fined for violating Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, which state that hospital waste should be disposed of in a scientific manner only. The hospital was caught by the alert NDS team, which was on its regular patrol, when they spotted bio-medical waste dumped near the footpath.
Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Solid Waste Management) Dr Gajendra Mahalle, who was also on patrolling duty, also visited the spot. During investigation, the staff in the laboratory admitted the bio-medical waste was dumped by them. It was done unintentionally, they claimed, urging Dr Mahalle to reduce the fine.
“If the pathology management is found repeating the act, the fine will be revised,” Dr Mahalle warned the staff at the lab.
