NMC recovers Rs 1.07 lakh fine from 258 persons for littering in public places

Nagpur: The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated stricter action against those who litter, throw garbage, spit, use plastic bags less than 50 microns in public places. On Tuesday, (the NDS registered 258 cases and recovered a fine of Rs 1.07 lakh.

In order to keep the city clean, punitive action has been initiated against the citizens who throw garbage, spit, pollute, litter, use plastic bags and shopkeepers on the streets and pavements. The Nuisance Detection Squad personnel registered 20 cases and collected a fine of Rs 4000. All were fined Rs 400 each. A fine of Rs 1500 has been collected and 3 cases have been registered against those who defecate in public places such as roads, footpaths, open spaces, etc. 59 cases were registered against handcarts, stalls, pantheles, hawkers, small vegetable vendors for unsanitary conditions (Rs. 400 fine each) and recovered Rs.23,600.

Similarly, Rs 4,800 was recovered by registering 48 cases against persons throwing garbage in public places like road, footpath, open spaces (Rs. 100 fine each). A fine of Rs.4400 was collected under 11 cases under which the shopkeepers threw garbage in public places (Rs. 400 fine each).

A fine of Rs1000 was recovered in 1 case under which organizations like educational institutes, coaching classes littering on road, footpath, open spaces (Rs 1000 fine each). A fine of Rs 6,000 was collected in 3 cases under which malls, restaurants, hotels, cinema halls, wedding halls, caterers, service providers etc. littered in public places (Rs 2000 fine each).

A fine of Rs.2000 was recovered under 2 cases (Rs1000 fine each) from chicken centre, mutton vendors for dumping their garbage on roads, footpaths, open spaces. A fine of Rs.1000 was collected and 1 case was registered under workshop, garages and other repairers for littering in public places (Rs 1000 fine each).

Apart from this, cases were registered against 72 other persons and a fine of Rs.14,400 was recovered. Also a fine of Rs 38,000 was recovered from the organizations in 38 cases.
