Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken another major step towards clean and sustainable public transport with the arrival of 29 new electric buses under the PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme. The induction of these e-buses marks the gradual phasing out of old, polluting diesel buses from the civic fleet.

As part of the Centre’s plan, NMC will receive a total of 150 e-buses over the next year, delivered in batches. To support this transition, two dedicated charging-cum-maintenance depots are being developed. The Khapri depot is in its final stages of completion, while the Koradi depot is already fully ready. Together, the facilities will be capable of handling the entire fleet of 150 electric buses.

The newly arrived buses are 9-metre standard Midi models, fully air-conditioned to ensure a more comfortable travel experience for citizens, particularly during Nagpur’s harsh summer months. Designed with inclusivity in mind, the e-buses come equipped with wheelchair lifts, making boarding significantly easier for Divyang commuters. Each bus offers 28 seats, and their compact size is expected to help them navigate the city’s congested roads more efficiently.

The buses have now reached Nagpur and will be sent to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for mandatory inspection before being formally inducted into the civic fleet. Under the PM E-Bus Sewa Scheme, NMC is scheduled to receive additional batches in the coming months, further strengthening the city’s move towards eco-friendly mobility.
