Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) administration has stepped forward to support farmers affected by the severe drought in the state. In a humanitarian decision, it has ordered that one day’s salary be deducted from the October salaries of all its officers and employees and deposited into the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The General Administration Department issued a special circular in this regard, signed by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar. According to the circular, the action is being taken on the basis of a government circular. As part of the state government’s large-scale relief campaign for drought-affected farmers, all NMC officers and employees have been urged to voluntarily donate one day’s salary.
Deduction to be made directly from salaries
The key provision this time is that the amount will be deducted directly rather than collected after seeking contributions. The circular states that an amount equivalent to one day’s salary will be deducted from the regular salary for October 2026, and only the remaining salary will be credited to the respective officer’s or employee’s account.
Anyone objecting to the deduction must submit a written objection in the format prescribed by the government through their department head within two days. Those who do not submit an objection within the stipulated period will be deemed to have no objection to the donation, and further action will be taken as per the government procedure.
Accounts to be completed by November 25
The Accounts and Finance Department has been instructed to deposit the total amount collected from across the NMC into the authorised bank account of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. After the amount is deposited, the receipt and a complete list of donors must be submitted to the government within the prescribed deadline. Their details must also be compiled before November 25, 2026, so that donors can avail themselves of income tax benefits.
All department heads, assistant commissioners and office heads have been directed to circulate the order to every officer and employee under their jurisdiction and ensure complete compliance.
