Nagpur: In order to curtail swelling expenses on lawyers of NMC, the standing committee approved the proposal put forth in this regard on Aug 27. Henceforth, the lawyers appearing in courts for NMC would be receiving their honorarium every month as per case-wise pleadings. This policy will bring more efficient lawyers for NMC, and will save Rs 6 lakh per year which used to spent on them, claimed standing committee chairman Ramesh Singare.
Until this development, the NMC used to obtain services of as many as seven lawyers appearing for it in the High Court cases, and their honorarium was paid to them every month as per their seniority. As a result, Rs 23,64,000 approximately used to be spent per month on them by the NMC.
Now, the NMC lawyers will be paid honorarium as per case-wise appearance in the court. Accordingly, Rs 10,000 will be paid till final judgment on a petition, Rs 20,000 till final judgement on a PIL, Rs 7,500 till judgment on review petition, and Rs 1 lakh lump sum for bigger case.

This being a new provision of the NMC, it is likely to get more efficient lawyers for its court-cases. The NMC will thus save Rs 6 lakh per annum, said Singare, adding that in addition to this, the legal advisor would be paid between Rs 7,500 and Rs 10,000.
