Nagpur: A special court in Nagpur has sentenced a Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Health Inspector to four years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe to fraudulently mark an absentee sanitation worker as present and ensure release of his full salary.
District and Sessions Judge SH Gwalani convicted Khilavan Lanjewar, a Class-III sanitary worker who was functioning as Health Inspector on additional charge at the Hanuman Nagar Zone-3 office, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the prosecution, Lanjewar exploited his official position by manipulating attendance records and facilitating payment of full wages to a worker despite his absence from duty. To continue the illegal arrangement, he demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000, accepted Rs 3,000 during an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trap operation, and instructed the complainant to pay the remaining amount the following month.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a successful trap and caught Lanjewar while accepting the tainted money. A case was registered at Hudkeshwar police station under Sections 7 and 13(1)(d) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The investigation was conducted by PI Manoj Gabhane of ACB Nagpur under the supervision of SP Digambar Pradhan and Additional SPs Madhuri Baviskar and Vijay Mahulkar. Public Prosecutor Abhay Jikar represented the State.
During the trial, the prosecution examined five witnesses and successfully established the demand, acceptance and recovery of the bribe. On August 27, 2026, the court held Lanjewar guilty.
For the offence under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the court sentenced him to three years’ simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, with an additional six months’ simple imprisonment in default of payment.
For the offence under Section 13(1)(d) read with Section 13(2), the court awarded four years’ rigorous imprisonment along with another Rs 10,000 fine, carrying a further six months’ simple imprisonment in default. Both sentences will operate in accordance with the court’s order.
