NMC gears up for Dhammachakra Pravartan Din, Mayor reviews arrangements at Deekshabhoomi

Nagpur: In view of upcoming Dhammachakra Pravartan Din to be celebrated on Thursday, Ocober 22, 2015, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has geared up to extend various facilities to lakhs and lakhs of devotees who will visit Deekshabhoomi in the city. Mayor Pravin Datke, accompanied by Ruling Party Leader Dayashankar Tiwari, Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Secretary of Deekshabhoomi Smarak Samiti Sadanand Fulzele and others, visited Deekshabhoomi and reviewed the arrangements.

At the outset, all the dignitaries garlanded the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and took ‘darshan’ of Asthi Kalash. They also garlanded the portrait of Bhagvan Buddha and lighted candles. Later, the Mayor and other officials visited the main function place as well as Mata Kacheri, ITI, Blind School and Shradhanandpeth Road and reviewed various arrangements to be provided to devotees.

The NMC has planned to set up 780 temporary toilets in ITI and Blaind School premises. Similarly, 100 bathrooms and urinals will be constructed. A massive pandal will be erected in front of ITI for temporary boarding of devotees. Water Works Department has decided to provide 24 hour drinking water and deploy water tankers around four sides of the Deekshabhoomi. 200 temporary water connections will be provided at various places.

The Executive Engineer (Electricity) Sanjay Jaiswal was directed Mayor to repair entire streetlights around Deekshabhoomi and install generators to deal with any exigency. In all 47 CCTV cameras are to be installed at the main function area and all the four squares surrounding the monument. The Health Department was asked to undertake cleaning at all the places where devotees would visit.

The Municipal Commissioner Hardikar requested the Smarak Samiti to make food arrangements at the pre-decided places so that food is not littered all over the roads. The NMC will give 24-hour service at the food distribution places for maintaining cleanliness. Moreover, Laxminagar, Dharampeth, Dhantoli Zones will supervise the NMC services and all the Assistant Commissioners of Zones will be deployed on duty, said Hardikar.
