The tough action follows after the contractors, caring a hoot, were found frequently quoting  same amounts in the tenders and failing to provide details of works carried out by them.

Nagpur News:

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner Shyam Wardhane, taking a serious note of the contractors registered with the NMC are indulging in extremely wicked acts thus fooling around the NMC, has initiated a stringent action against four contractors.

The contractors, caring a hoot, were found frequently quoting same amounts in the tenders and failing to provide details of works carried out by them, were banned for one year from any development or other works of the NMC. The agitated Wardhane also ordered to seize their security deposit which is mandatory for every NMC contractor before carrying out any NMC work. The banned contractors include Rajkumar Bajaj of M/s Baba Constructions, Deepak N Thakre of M/s Deepak Constructions, K A Lulla of M/s Shanti Enterprises, and Narayan Wairagade of M/s Sanjay M Mupidwar.

The four contractors had filled up tenders for construction of rubber-moulded I block pavement in Nayi Basti, Mukund Nagar and Azad Nagar areas of Ward No. 4. The tenders were opened on March 13, 2013, and the concerned NMC authorities were surprised after finding the four contractors had quoted 30.77 per cent less amounts than the proposed amount for carrying out the work. The NMC authorities directed the four contractors to fill up fresh tenders for the work. However, the NMC authorities were shocked after finding the same 33.77 per cent less amounts the four contractors quoted again.

The office of NMC’s City Engineer tried to contact the four contractors several times to seek information on the material needed for rubber moulded I block pavement, samples of I block, etc and submit the documents with above information within three days to the office of City Engineer. But the four contractors, leave alone submission of documents, even showed no courtesy to communicate with the City Engineer’s office. The office even tried to contact them through phones and SMSes but in vain. Enraged over the nefarious motive and actions on the part of the four contractors the City Engineer S S Gaekwad apprised the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Madan Gadge about the conduct of the four contractors. In turn, Madan Gadge prepared a detailed report over the disturbing facts and submitted the report to Commissioner Shyam Wardhane.

Acting tough, the Commissioner banned the four contractors from carrying out any work for one year on May 8, 2013.

It may be recalled that following enforcement of LBT the bills of most of contractors are pending with the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer Madan Gadge for clearing the payment. However, with the blessings of some officers the “dearest” contractors have not been deprived of their payments triggering  uproar by the left out contractors.
