NMC collects construction debris from 259 locations in city

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has kicked off its initiative to keep Nagpur clean by launching the collection of construction debris and waste. During the drive, the civic body team collected construction debris from 259 locations.

NMC claimed that Gajendra Mahalle, Director of the Solid Waste Management Department, has instructed the Nuisance Detection Squad to pick up the debris zone-wise and send it for proper processing. The squad identified numerous locations across various zones where construction debris have accumulated. With the assistance of a specialised agency for construction and demolition (C&D) waste, the NMC will undertake the collection process using available resources within each zone.

According to the information collected by the squad, construction debris (C&D waste) has been found at 26 locations in Laxmi Nagar zone, 54 locations in Dharampeth zone, 16 locations in Hanuman Nagar zone, 21 locations in Dhantoli zone, 29 locations in Nehru Nagar zone, 22 locations in Gandhibagh zone, 13 locations in Satranjipura zone, and 11 locations in Lakadganj zone. Additionally, construction debris has been found at 30 places in Ashi Nagar zone and 27 places in Mangalwari zone.

Apart from this, debris generated at the sites of ongoing development works across the city by Government organisations also will be picked up by the team. Following directives from Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijit Choudhary, the Nuisance Detection Squad has surveyed all 10 zones in the city to identify areas where construction waste has piled up, stated a press release issued by the NMC.
