NMC collected Rs 1.10 cr fine from over 10 k people for dirtying heritage spots

Nagpur: Even as Nagpur has been vying to earn the elusive smart city tag, there are many citizens out there who turn the city roads, public places and even heritage sites into full filth. They do not even hesitate to pee or spit at these conserved spots. Now the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has raised the bar for action against such whimsical lot by setting up a search team.

In the last eight months, 10,233 people have been penalised for the same, a total of Rs 1.10 crore has been collected as fine from them by NMC research team, informed NMC Health Officer Pradeep Dasarwar.

A search team comprising retired soldiers has been set up to take action against the nuisances that have been created by some antisocial elements.

The squad started action from 11 December 2017. Between December 11 and August 31, the search squad has penalized around 10,233 people.

Initially, the state government had imposed a fine of Rs 50 to Rs 2,000 till April 2018. However the penalty amount has doubled since May -2018.
