
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will undertake the counting of votes for the civic elections on January 16 across all 10 municipal zones, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari informed on Monday.
Dr Chaudhari briefed representatives of various political parties on the counting arrangements and overall election management during a meeting held at the NMC headquarters in Civil Lines. Voting for the elections will take place on January 15, with a total of 993 candidates contesting.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner (Election) Nirbhay Jain presented detailed information on the election logistics, including the list of 3,004 polling booths, which has already been uploaded on the NMC’s official website for verification by political parties. He also shared details regarding the strong rooms and the security and administrative arrangements at the counting centres.
Civic officials explained the step-by-step procedure for vote counting, and informed party representatives about the deployment of expenditure observers to monitor campaign spending by candidates. The methodology for scrutiny of election expenses was also outlined.
To facilitate candidates, the NMC has set up a single-window system at all zonal offices for permissions related to election activities. In addition, a dedicated Model Code of Conduct monitoring cell has been established in each zone to ensure strict compliance.
Officials further informed that complete details of candidates contesting the elections are available on the NMC website. Measures being undertaken under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme to improve voter turnout were also shared.
The NMC administration appealed to political parties to extend full cooperation to ensure the smooth, transparent and orderly conduct of the civic election process.
