Nagpur: In a major push toward making Nagpur cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has strengthened its door-to-door waste collection system by adding 40 new collection vehicles to its Solid Waste Management fleet.
The new vehicles—launched between the Gandhibagh Mahal Zone and the Mangalwari Zone—were flagged off by Mayor Neeta Thakre at the NMC headquarters on Thursday. With this addition, the number of BVG India Ltd. vehicles has increased to 260, and the city now operates 490 waste collection vehicles in total.

The initiative aims to make waste collection more efficient, reduce garbage accumulation in localities, and improve the overall cleanliness system. The new fleet consists of:
• 20 Electric Vehicles
• 20 Diesel Vehicles
These vehicles will replace older units and are expected to improve waste pickup, especially in areas where collection previously remained irregular.
Several dignitaries attended the launch event, including: Corporators Dinesh Yadav, Syeda Begum Nizam Ansari, Pooja Pathak, Acting Municipal Commissioner Vasumana Pant, Deputy Commissioners Nirbhay Jain, Dr. Ranjana Lade, Rajesh Bhagat, Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Executive Engineer Alpana Patne, Sports Officer Dr. Piyush Ambulkar, Divisional Sanitation Officer Lokesh Basanwar, Bhola Khobragade along with several officials from NMC and BVG India Ltd.
Waste Collection in Nagpur: Two-Agency Model
The NMC has appointed two agencies for the citywide waste collection and transportation system:
• Antony Waste Ltd. for Zones 1 to 5
• BVG India Ltd. for Zones 6 to 10
With the new additions, BVG’s fleet capacity has significantly expanded, enabling smoother operations in Zones 6–10.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Neeta Thakre said: “These new vehicles will greatly strengthen wet and dry waste collection. With more efficient door-to-door services, the city will look cleaner and more beautiful.”
She expressed confidence that the upgraded fleet will reduce garbage pile-ups, improve sanitation, and enhance the overall quality of life for Nagpur residents.
A Cleaner, Smarter Nagpur Ahead
The newly added vehicles are expected to speed up daily garbage pickups, improve services in previously inconsistent areas, reduce garbage spots in residential zones, support the city’s mission of becoming cleaner and greener.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation aims to maintain cleanliness standards across all zones while continuing to modernize waste management operations.
