
Nagpur: In a significant step towards strengthening academic and research collaboration in fire safety and engineering, the National Fire Service College (NFSC), Nagpur, under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar.
The agreement was formalised on May 5, 2026, in Bhubaneswar, with NFSC Director A R Sontakke and IIT Bhubaneswar Director Shripad Karmalkar signing the MoU in the presence of senior faculty members and officials from both institutions.
As per the agreement, the two premier institutions will collaborate on joint research projects, facilitate faculty and student exchange programmes, and share laboratory infrastructure. The partnership also envisages organising workshops, training sessions, and short-term academic courses aimed at enhancing technical knowledge and practical skills.
The initiative has been approved under the guidance of Sunil Kumar Jha, Director General (Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards), Ministry of Home Affairs.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sontakke expressed confidence that the collaboration would significantly advance research and innovation in fire engineering and safety, while also strengthening technical capabilities in the sector.
