Nagpur: In a major relief for residents of Seminary Hills, Surendragad and Gittikhadan areas, a new road proposed under the Development Plan (DP) will soon connect Seminary Hills Road to Ravinagar Square. The proposed road, measuring 700 metres in length and 24 metres in width, will pass in front of the Veterinary College, significantly reducing the current detour of nearly 2.5 kilometres that commuters have to take to reach Amravati Road.
The project has received all necessary government approvals, and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Commissioner and Administrator Dr Abhijit Chaudhari on Tuesday conducted an inspection of the site and directed officials to expedite the work and ensure its early completion.
Chief Engineer Manoj Talewar, Deputy Commissioner Ganesh Rathod, Executive Engineer Manoj Gadre, Garden Superintendent Amol Chaurpagar, Assistant Engineers Pramod Mokade and Narendra Bhandarkar, along with other officials and staff, were present during the inspection.
At present, residents of Seminary Hills and the CPWD Quarters area are compelled to take a long detour of around 2.5 kilometres to reach Amravati Road or Ravinagar. As per the Development Plan, the new road will originate from the front of the Veterinary College and connect directly to Seminary Hills Road, before further linking to the road leading straight to Ravinagar Square.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 22 crore. Once completed, it will greatly ease connectivity for residents of Seminary Hills, CPWD Quarters, Surendragad and Gittikhadan, making access to Amravati Road faster and more convenient.
For the execution of the project, NMC has taken possession of land belonging to Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU) as well as adjoining zudpi jungle land. The State Government has granted all required approvals to the civic body, clearing all hurdles in the implementation of the project.
With all statutory clearances in place, Dr Chaudhari instructed civic officials and the contractor to accelerate the pace of work and complete the road at the earliest.
