Need to set up digital public libraries stressed

Nagpur: The Deputy Director of Raja Rammohan Roy Pratishthan Soumen Sarkar on Thursday called upon public libraries to undertake modernization with the help of services of information and technology. “Stress should be on establishment of digital libraries,” Sarkar said.digital librariesrkar was speaking after inaugurating a workshop organized in connection with development of public libraries at Morris College Auditorium here on Thursady. Deputy Director, Libraries, S H Rathod presided over the function. Director of Vasantrao Naik Arts and Social Science Institute Dr Sunetra Maharaj Patil, Assistant Regional Officer Dipanjan Chatterjee, Assistant Director of Libraries V M Dange and District Librarian Ratnakar Nalavade were the chief guests.

“Raja Rammohan Roy Pratishthan always extends helps to public libraries through its various schemes. The State and Central Governments too give help in different forms and through these aids, the public libraries develop and prosper for catering to various sections of people,” Sarkar said.

Dr Sunetra Maharaj Patil in her speech stressed the need for digitization and microfilming of rare volumes and records. The digital volumes should be reached to the common people for various purposes, she said.
