Nagpur:In a significant development, the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has announced its first-ever candidate for the East Nagpur seat in the upcoming assembly elections. This marks the party’s debut in contesting a seat in Nagpur, a move seen as part of the broader Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which recently declared an equal seat-sharing arrangement among its three key partners.
Duneshwar Pethe, the city president of the NCP and a former corporator, has been nominated as the candidate for the East Nagpur constituency. Pethe will face a formidable challenge from BJP’s three-time MLA Krishna Khopde, who has held the seat for 15 years, making it a BJP stronghold.
This contest will be closely watched as the NCP attempts to establish a foothold in the region, potentially shifting the political dynamics of East Nagpur.
