Nagpur: A delegation of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Corporator Vedprakash Arya, recently met the Superintending Engineer Dhoble of Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) and demanded reduction in power tariff. Arya told that power tariff in Maharashtra is highest as compared to other states across the country.

“At present, from August 11, 2012, the household power tariff is from 0 unit to 100 units is Rs 3.36 per unit, from units 101 to 300 Rs 6.65 per unit, from units 301 to 500 Rs 7.92 per unit, from units 501 to 1000 Rs 8.78, from units 1001 and above Rs 9.50 per unit + fuel charge. This exorbitant tariff was being recovered from consumers every month,” stressed the NCP delegation.

However, according to a power tariff notification dated 13.4.2015, power tariff being recovered from consumers is from 0 unit to 100 units is Rs 3.78 per unit, from units 101 to 300 Rs 7.21 per unit, from units 301 to 500 Rs 9.95 per unit, from units 501 to 1000 Rs 11.31 per unit, from units 1001 and above Rs 12.50 per unit + fuel charge. The said tariff came into force from 1.6.2015, said Arya and added that the power tariff recovered from consumers in Maharashtra is highest among all the states across the country. “The exorbitant bills are burdening the common people with no end. Moreover, apart from the per unit rate, other charges such as fixed charge, electricity charge, electricity duty, etc are also being recovered from helpless consumers,” lamented the delegation.
