National school chess tourney from Jan 5

Nagpur: The Nagpur Chess Academy will be hosting the prestigious 5th National School Chess Championship at Naivedhyam Eastoria, sponsored by SS International School, Besa from January 5 to 7.

Addressing media persons organising committee chairman Manoj Itkelwar said the city will be entering into the history books as five-time World Champion Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand will inaugurate this mega event at 10.30 a.m. 10.30am, Mayor of the city Pravin Datke will be the guest of honour and will also felicitate Anand on behalf of the Orange City.

He further said, the National School Chess Championship is the biggest and the most prominent chess tournament of the country and serves as a qualifier to represent India in the Asian School and World School Chess Championship which will be held at Tunisia / North Africa in April 2016.

The tournament will witness record breaking entries of 650 players from all over India and will be played in six categories – U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 and U–17 for both boys and girls. Every State have shown their kind support towards the championship by sending bulk entries of participants, Itkelwar said.

In this esteemed event total 45 trophies / medals (gold / silver / bronze) will be given to top three players of each age group category. Apart from this at National / State / Nagpur School level trophies (gold / silver / bronze) will be distributed to the winning school team.

The chief arbiter of the tournament Rathinam Anantharam IA, Pravin Thakre will be deputy arbiter. They will be assisted by Anurag Singh, Chetan Deodhgale, Govind Bhake, Umesh Panbude and Prakash Chahande.

MCA secretary Dilip Pagey, NDCA secreary VK Trivedi, CEO SS International School Sameer Dhume attended the press conference.
