Nagpur: Congress MLA Nana Patole on Monday mounted a sharp attack on both the State and Central Governments, accusing those in power of arrogance and neglecting public issues. He alleged that leaders and legislators in the ruling establishment have become disconnected from ground realities, pushing citizens’ concerns to the background.

Addressing the media, Patole said that farmers continue to face repeated setbacks due to flawed policies. Referring to ongoing developments around power policies and solar projects, he claimed that “under the guise of reforms, common citizens are being exploited while farmers are left to suffer.”

On the issue of the reported merger involving Prahar and Shiv Sena factions, Patole described it as an internal matter of the parties concerned but stressed that any decision should prioritise farmers’ welfare. “The interests of farmers must come first, regardless of political calculations,” he said.

With the Legislative Council (MLC) elections approaching, Patole made a guarded remark, suggesting that April 30 would be decisive. “Earlier too, claims of unopposed elections were made, but contests did take place. The real picture will emerge only after the 30th,” he noted.

Reacting to the recent incident in Mira-Bhayandar, Patole accused the government of fuelling divisions along religious and linguistic lines. “Society is being divided on the basis of language and religion, and the consequences are now visible,” he said, adding that the ideals of social reformers have been sidelined.

Patole also raised serious concerns over the law and order situation in the state, particularly in the wake of the Kolhapur atrocity case. “The authority of the Home Department has weakened. Policing has become lax, and women’s safety is under threat. Today, women do not feel secure anywhere in the state,” he alleged.

While avoiding a detailed comment on the Govind Pansare case, Patole continued his criticism of the ruling dispensation, stating that those in power have become too arrogant to respond meaningfully.

Defending Rahul Gandhi over his recent remarks, Patole said that raising concerns within a democratic framework is both valid and necessary. “Every political party faces internal challenges. Rahul Gandhi has expressed a balanced and constructive view, what is wrong with that?” he questioned.

Patole’s strong statements are expected to further intensify the political climate in Maharashtra, setting the stage for sharp exchanges between the ruling alliance and the opposition.
