Nagpur’s Wockhardt Hospital fined Rs 75,000 for disposing bio-medical waste carelessly

Nagpur: The Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on Wockhardt Hospital, Shankar Nagar, for disposing biomedical waste along with regular garbage.

The hospital has been fined for violating Bio-Medical Waste Management (BWM) Rules which states that hospital waste should be disposed of in a scientific manner. On Saturday, the hospital was found handing over the bio waste with solid waste in a garbage collecting vehicle.

Acting on a tip off, the NDS carried out a raid following directives of the Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Dharampeth Zone. The NDS team imposed a fine of Rs 75,000 on the hospital.

According to NMC, if the hospital management is found repeating the act, the fine amount will be revised.
