Nagpur’s streets come alive with Holi revelry and riot of colours

Nagpur: The dawn of Monday the March 25 witnessed reverberation of the evergreen song Rang barse bheege chunar wali, rang barse and Bura Mat Mano Holi Hai was the buzzword to greet the revellers who enjoyed the Festival of Colours – Holi — with full vigour in Orange City.

People of various sections celebrated the festival of colours Holi with pomp and gaiety wishing each other a bright future in Nagpur. Right from the morning to the evening people of all age groups from all walks of life including children visited the houses of their friends and relatives and celebrated the festival by smearing colours on each other and distributing sweets.

The Holi celebrations were a treat to the palate. Puran Poli, Gujiyas, crisp papads, masala kachoris and a lot more. Food is integral to every festival in India. It was the perfect time to enjoy the festive zeal with playful moments and adoring snacks.

During the past few years the Festival of Colours, Holi, has changed a lot. Its only reason is that the festival is not limited to use of or Gulal. New Holi items had flooded markets in the city. Just like Diwali, Nagpur is known for celebrating Holi with passion.

5,000 cops deployed:

The Nagpur police were leaving no stone unturned to maintain law and order during Holi. The police had escalated their crack down on anti-social elements and initiated preventive action against 1,200 history-sheeters. A strong posse of around 5,000 police personnel was deployed for the Holi bandobast, with support of four squads of Riot Control Police (RCP), companies of CRPF, SRPF and BSF across the city.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr Ravinder Singal, chaired a meeting with top officials to assess the security arrangements. The CP had announced that persons caught driving under the influence of alcohol would be detained and put in the lock up. Furthermore, the police have intensified their crackdown on illegal liquor sellers. Raids were conducted across various areas, with a sizable volume of illicit alcohol seized by the City police.
