Nagpur: Prateek Mopkar, a specially-abled table tennis player from Nagpur won gold medal for India in the recently held Special Olympics World Games, at Berlin, Germany.
Mopkar won gold in the men’s doubles event. He also secured fourth place in Div A of 30+ age category of men’s singles. Prateek was selected by Special Olympics Bharat on the basis of his performance at four preparatory camps as well as selection trials at Faridabad, Noida and Gandhi Nagar.
Prateek, who got early lessons in TT from grandfather Late Avinash Mopkar (international umpire), is now trained by father Mangesh Mopkar (international umpire) and uncle Rajesh Mopkar (international umpire). He also received tremendous support from Adv Ashutosh Potnis, Secretary, Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association and Nagpur District Table Tennis Association; Deepak Kanetkar and players of his club.
