
Nagpur: Maya Iwnate, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Mayor of Nagpur, officially took oath on Monday as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. Vice-President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath.
An atmosphere of joy prevails across the entire Vidarbha region and Maharashtra, as the journey of this dedicated tribal woman activist, which began at the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, now reached the hallowed precincts of the Parliament. Maya Iwnate’s political journey has been both arduous and inspiring.
After being elected as a corporator for the first time in 2002, she ably served as the Mayor of Nagpur from 2007 to 2009. Subsequently, serving as the State Vice President of the BJP and a Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), she effectively raised issues concerning the tribal community at the national-level.
Several prominent office-bearers of BJP from Nagpur and Maharashtra were present in Delhi to witness this historic moment. The attendees included former MLA and President of the BJP Scheduled Tribes Morcha (Maharashtra State), Dr Devrao Holi; former MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh; BJP Nagpur General Secretary Sandip Jadhav; Vice Presidents Sanjay Bangale, Kishan Gawande, Sanjay Girgaonkar, and Naresh Barde; corporators Sadhana Barde and Darshani Dhavad; President of the BJP Tribal Front (Nagpur City), Akash Madavi; and office bearers of the AFROT organisation, including President Rajendra Maraskolhe, Vice President Mahendra Uike, Vivek Nagbhire, Datta Khode, Prashant Kumre, Shiva Kokarde, Dr Ashish Koreti, and Kailas Uike.
BJP City President Dayashankar Tiwari, along with General Secretaries Shrikant Aglave and Sandeep Jadhav, Ritesh Gawande, and Manisha Dhavade, extended their best wishes to Iwnate and lauded her achievements.
