Nagpur’s Divya Deshmukh wins Gold medal at Asian Youth Chess Championship

Nagpur News: Budding chess player Divya Deshmukh added another feather to her cap by clinching gold medal in Asian Youth Chess Championship at Sari in Iran.

In under-8 girls section rapid event, Divya coached by Rahul Joshi earned total 6.5 points to win the title. According to the informatuion, in the last round second seed Divya defeated 11th seed Vuong Quynh Anh of Vietnam. Bhagyashree Patil of India finished third in the same category. In the said championship, India bagged highest 14 medals including five gold, three silver and six bronze. The chess payers from 15 Asian countries participated in the event.

Daughter of gynaecologists Namrata and Jitendra Deshmukh, last year she became under-7 Asian chess champion in New Delhi during 8th Asian Schools Chess Championship at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. The officials of chess associaiton have congratulated Divya for her achievement. India bagged highest 14 medals including five gold, three silver and six bronze.
