NAGPUR: Nagpur’s proposed 149-km Third Ring Road is planned to be developed as a multimodal corridor integrating road connectivity, metro services, townships and other infrastructure, according to a report by eSakal published on October 12, 2026.

The project, being planned through the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA), will have a proposed width of 120 metres. It is expected to pass through 107 villages across nine talukas in Nagpur district.

Around 3,000 hectares of land is proposed to be acquired from farmers for the project.

Beyond a Ring Road

The proposed corridor aims to go beyond conventional highway infrastructure by integrating transport facilities with urban development. The plan draws inspiration from the Alibag–Virar multimodal corridor model, with provisions for road connectivity, metro links, townships and supporting infrastructure.

The project is also expected to ease the movement of heavy vehicles and reduce traffic pressure on Nagpur city and its two existing ring roads.

If implemented as planned, the corridor could influence the region’s long-term urban expansion, connectivity and development of new townships.

However, the proposal will require land acquisition and coordinated infrastructure planning before the planned facilities can be realised.
