Nagpur witnesses surge, 194 new COVID-19 cases detected on Wednesday

Nagpur: The situation on COVID-19 front appears to be escalating with Nagpur district recording 194 new cases on a single day on Wednesday. With these many new cases, the active caseload of the district rose to 942, inching closer to 1,000 mark. Fortunately, Wednesday saw no death in the district.

For the past few days, the number of COVID-19 cases has been rising regularly. However, on Wednesday, it rose dramatically. Nagpur district recorded 194 new cases including 132 from Nagpur city alone and 62 from rural areas. With these many new cases, the cumulative number of cases recorded in the city so far since early 2020 rose to 4,01,440 and that for rural areas rose to 1,69,048.

The recovery was lower than new cases, reveals the data released by the administration on Wednesday. The district reported 115 recoveries including 62 from Nagpur city, and 53 from rural areas. As a result, the active caseload increased to 942 including 667 in Nagpur city and 275 in rural areas. The silver lining was that the district reported no new deaths. Also, the recovery rate was steady at 98.14 per cent.

As per the Wednesday’s data, a total 2,267 tests were conducted in the district including 1,551 in Nagpur city and 716 in rural areas. As per the official data, 23 patients were in COVID-19 hospital/care centre and 919 were in home isolation. Those admitted in hospitals included six in Government Medical College and Hospital, one in Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital, four in Kingsway Hospital, two each in Railway Hospital and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital (Sitabuldi), three in Ganga Care Hospital, one in Critical Care Hospital, and four in Meditrina Hospital.
