Nagpur: The brutal murder of 14-year-old Atharva Nainare has sent shockwaves across Nagpur, triggering fear and outrage. The teenager, who had gone missing from the Gittikhadan area, was found dead within Kalmeshwar limits. His body was discovered near the Ring Road in the Bharatwada area, stuffed inside a sack with his hands and legs tied.
Police have detained two suspects in connection with the case and are currently interrogating them.
Atharva had gone missing during a Hanuman Jayanti procession. When he failed to return home late into the night, his family began searching for him, but to no avail. A police complaint was then filed, following which an intensive search operation was launched.
According to CCTV footage reviewed during the investigation, Atharva was last seen near an ice cream parlour with two friends. He later left alone. Investigators believe the accused led him to a location without CCTV coverage, strengthening suspicions that the crime was premeditated.
The condition of the body indicates that Atharva was subjected to severe physical assault before being killed. Police suspect the involvement of more than one person in the crime. It is also not being ruled out that Atharva may have known the accused.
A key breakthrough in the investigation has come from the trademark markings found on the sack in which the body was recovered. Police are using this evidence to trace the culprits.
Preliminary suspicions suggest that the murder may have stemmed from a financial dispute or personal enmity. Taking serious note of the incident, the Police Commissioner visited the crime scene, and multiple teams have been deployed to expedite the investigation.
The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. Meanwhile, with two suspects already in custody, police are hopeful of cracking the case soon.
