Nagpur: The City of Oranges shone brighter than ever on Tuesday night as Diwali, the Festival of Lights, transformed Nagpur into a luminous spectacle. Streets, homes, and hearts were alight with joy as residents celebrated Laxmi Pujan, the day devoted to worshipping the goddess of wealth, with unbridled enthusiasm.
Despite government restrictions limiting firecracker use to a brief two-hour window from 8 pm to 10 pm, the spirit of Diwali overflowed. Firecrackers boomed, laughter echoed, and the city experienced a jubilant, almost carnival-like atmosphere.
This year, a silver lining emerged amidst the celebratory boom. Thanks to the adoption of green crackers, Nagpurians enjoyed a festival free from the usual smog and heavy air pollution that typically follow Diwali nights. The city’s skies, more or less clear, stood as a testament that traditions and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
Diwali, a festival celebrated across Hindu communities, embodies the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. Beyond firecrackers, the five-day extravaganza is marked by family feasts, sweet exchanges, and devotional rituals. Courtyards and entrances sparkled with intricate rangoli designs, creating a visual feast that rivalled the fireworks above.
As the night wore on, the city basked in a warm glow of togetherness, devotion, and eco-conscious revelry, a Diwali that lit up hearts without clouding the skies.
