Nagpur: Nearly half of the notices issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Nagpur district remain undelivered, raising concerns over whether affected voters will get sufficient time to complete verification formalities.
According to the latest Notice and Hearing Report, only 4.71 lakh of the 8.66 lakh notices generated have been delivered, representing 54.45% of the total. Another 3.94 lakh notices, or 45.55%, are still pending.
The Election Commission has extended the deadline for disposing of claims and objections under the exercise to November 10.
Nagpur North Has Highest Delivery Backlog
The notice delivery figures vary considerably across constituencies.
- Nagpur North: 66,623 notices pending
- Nagpur West: 59,760 notices pending
- Hingna: 57,044 notices pending
Together, these three constituencies account for 1,83,427 undelivered notices.
In Nagpur South West, 74,511 of the 89,352 notices generated have been delivered. Nagpur South, however, has recorded delivery of just 28,372 out of 76,464 notices.
Thousands of Hearings and Cases Remain Pending
The report records 47,209 hearings conducted so far. Hearing dates have already passed in 2,92,914 cases, while another 4,943 cases have crossed their rescheduled hearing dates.
At the district election officer level, 65,054 cases remain pending, including 61,465 that have been pending for more than five days.
The notices concern voters whose records were flagged as unmapped or as having logical discrepancies during the SIR exercise. Those affected may need to submit documents, attend hearings and resolve discrepancies to ensure their electoral records are properly verified.
Revised SIR Schedule
Under the revised schedule:
- October 26: Deadline for filing applications and objections
- November 10: Deadline for disposing of claims and objections and completing the notice-related process
- November 16: Scheduled publication of the final electoral roll
With nearly four lakh notices yet to be delivered, the coming weeks will be crucial for election officials and affected voters. Timely delivery and completion of hearings will be important to ensure that eligible voters have an opportunity to resolve discrepancies before the final roll is published.
