Nagpur: In the aftermath of a hit-and-run incident involving a Porsche driven by an inebriated teenager in Pune, Nagpur Police have intensified their scrutiny of city pubs to curb drunk driving and related unlawful activities. Special teams in plain clothes have been deployed to monitor pubs and report their findings for further action.
Under this new initiative, police officials are closely observing activities inside and outside pubs, with a particular focus on identifying patrons who may be driving under the influence of alcohol. Nagpur, known for its vibrant nightlife, has approximately 375 pubs and bars, although the exact number of pubs alone is not specified.
Key areas such as Dharampeth, Shivaji Nagar, Sonegaon, Pratap Nagar, and Sitabuldi, which fall under the jurisdiction of Ambazari Police Station, are noted for their high density of pubs. Concerns have also emerged about the alleged distribution of drugs alongside alcohol in certain establishments. Top police officials have acknowledged these issues and directed immediate action against the problematic pubs.
One of the most notorious pubs, Dabo on Wardha Road, has frequently made headlines due to incidents of violence and misconduct. Notable events include a brutal assault on a family and a violent altercation involving misconduct against a woman.

Other pubs like Agent Jack and Warehouse in VR Mall near Medical Square have also garnered notoriety for serious altercations. In response, the police have taken action against seven pubs and bars this year, including:
