Nagpur: Proving its tough stance on illegal animal trafficking and slaughterhouses in the Second Capital of the State, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar led Nagpur Police, which has reached a significant milestone by conducting the highest number of raids on illegal animal trafficking and slaughterhouses across Maharashtra.

Until November 2023, Nagpur Police registered 184 cases against illegal animal slaughtering, compared to 115 in the previous year. While 286 individuals were arrested in 2023, and material worth Rs 8.84 Crore was seized, 161 individuals were arrested, and material worth Rs 4.52 Crore was seized in 2022.

In addition to the highest number of raids, Nagpur Police has successfully imposed MPDA against an accused involved in illegal animal smuggling.

Earlier this year, CP Amitesh Kumar had warned of strict action against persons engaged in illegal animal trafficking and slaughterhouses.

In the process, CP Kumar has not spared the police department either. Kumar ordered the suspension of 10 cops from Yashodhara Nagar DB Squad following reports of their alleged nexus with local beef sellers. The suspended personnel include two officials and eight police personnel from the DB Squad of Yashodhara Nagar.
