Nagpur: As part of an intensified drive against illegal liquor and banned nylon manja, the Zone 5 Police led by DCP Niketan Kadam, have seized and destroyed goods worth ₹36 lakh during a special crackdown conducted across multiple police zones on Wednesday, January 7.
According to official records, action was taken against the illegal sale, transportation and storage of liquor under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act and other relevant laws. With due permission from the State Excise Department, the seized stock was destroyed in the presence of senior officials.

Seizures under Police Commissionerate Limits
During the operation, police registered cases across zones including Kalamna, Pardi, Yashodhara Nagar and Wathoda. A total of 525 cases related to illegal liquor were detected, leading to the seizure of liquor worth ₹26 lakh. As many as 485 accused were booked, while 30 habitual offenders were subjected to stricter preventive action.
Additionally, in cases involving banned nylon manja, police registered 30 offences and seized fake liquor worth ₹10.05 lakh, booking 49 accused.
Awareness and Preventive Measures
The police administration stated that along with enforcement, large-scale awareness campaigns were conducted to educate citizens about the dangers of consuming illicit and spurious liquor. These included outreach through social media, public announcements and special drives such as Operation Thunder and Operation Shakti.
Special emphasis was also laid on action under the NDPS Act, with police urging citizens to cooperate and report illegal activities. Authorities reiterated that strict action will continue against those involved in the manufacture, sale and distribution of illegal liquor.
Senior Officials Present
The destruction of seized liquor was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, in the presence of senior officers including the Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioners, DCPs of respective zones and officials from the State Excise Department.
Police officials said the sustained crackdown reflects the department’s commitment to public safety and warned that such operations will be intensified in the coming days to curb illegal liquor networks in the city.
