Nagpur: Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil has imposed restrictions on the use of beam lights and laser beam lights across the Nagpur Police Commissionerate limits until December 31, 2026.
The order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, considering the upcoming festive celebrations, including Diwali, Lakshmi Puja, Gurunanak Jayanti, Christmas, Mahaparinirvan Day and New Year.
According to the notification, organisers frequently use powerful beam and laser lights during festive events and local programmes. However, such lights can cause eye injuries and pose potential health risks. They can also distract motorists, increasing the possibility of road accidents and creating law-and-order concerns.
Under the order, owners and operators of beam and laser lights have been directed to keep the equipment switched off and secured. Event organisers have also been instructed not to use such lighting equipment during the restricted period.
The restrictions will remain effective from November 2, 2026, at midnight until December 31, 2026, at 11:59 pm.
The order has been signed by Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil.
