Nagpur: A man already lodged in jail in connection with an illegal money lending and extortion case is now facing fresh allegations of cheating a close relative of nearly ₹10 lakh by promising to arrange a plot at a discounted price.
According to a complaint registered at Imamwada Police Station, the accused, Kamlesh Ganpat Hanwate, allegedly duped his relative by taking cash and gold jewellery under the pretext of securing a low-cost plot. Police are preparing to take him into custody through a production warrant for further investigation.

According to police, complainant Parvatibai Hanwate, a resident of Rajabaksha Layout, stated that the accused had approached her in 2023, assuring her that he could arrange a residential plot at a concessional price.
Believing his assurances, she allegedly handed over cash on multiple occasions along with gold ornaments. The total value of the cash and jewellery is estimated to be around ₹10 lakh.
However, despite receiving the money and valuables, the accused neither arranged the promised plot nor returned the cash or jewellery. After repeated delays and alleged excuses, the complainant approached Imamwada Police, following which a case of cheating was registered against the accused.
Police said Kamlesh Hanwate is already in judicial custody in connection with an illegal money lending and extortion case registered by Sakkardara Police. Imamwada Police will now seek his custody through a production warrant for questioning in the latest fraud case.
Investigators also suspect that more victims may come forward with similar complaints as the probe progresses.
