Nagpur: A video allegedly showing a woman performing a lavani dance inside the Nagpur office of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has triggered outrage and prompted disciplinary action from the party’s leadership.
The video, reportedly filmed during a “Deepavali Milan” event inside the recently inaugurated NCP office, shows a woman dancing before a crowd of men and women party members. The office was inaugurated just two months ago by Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar.
Following the incident, NCP general secretary Shivajirao Garje issued a letter to Nagpur City District President Anil Ahirkar, demanding an explanation within seven days. The letter stated that “the party’s image is being maligned after office bearers were seen dancing and singing inside the office.”
Senior NCP leader Praful Patel said that necessary action would be taken against those involved once Ahirkar submits his response.
Meanwhile, Opposition parties, including NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), seized on the controversy. Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule condemned the incident, calling the video “disturbing.”
“You have snatched the party from Sharad Pawar. Innumerable people worked hard to build this organisation, and now such programmes are being held in its offices,” Sule said. She added that while farmers in Maharashtra are suffering losses, ruling party leaders are “busy enjoying dance programs inside offices,” calling the situation “shameful.”
The controversy has placed the spotlight firmly on Anil Ahirkar, who now faces mounting pressure to explain how such an event took place under his watch.
