Nagpur Municipal Reservation Announced: 76 Women, 75 Men Councillors in Upcoming NMC Election

Nagpur : The long-awaited reservation draw for the upcoming Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections was officially held on November 11 at the Suresh Bhat Auditorium. The draw has determined how the city’s 151 municipal seats will be distributed across categories — and confirmed that 50% of the seats will be reserved for women, resulting in 76 female and 75 male corporators in the next civic body.

The announcement has brought clarity to the political landscape ahead of the polls, setting the stage for candidate selection and ward-level strategies by major parties. Aspiring corporators and former representatives had been keenly awaiting the results of this reservation lottery since the election schedule was announced.

Composition of NMC Seats

  • Total seats: 151
  • General Category: 69
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC): 40
  • Scheduled Castes (SC): 30
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST): 12

Nagpur city comprises 38 wards (prabhags) — 37 wards will elect four members each, while the 38th ward will have three members, maintaining the total strength of 151 councillors.

Scheduled Caste (SC) Reservation

Out of the 30 SC-reserved wards, 15 have been earmarked for women candidates.
Ward numbers: 2A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 10A, 12A, 14A, 17A, 24A, 25A, 29A, 30A, 32A, 37A

Scheduled Tribe (ST) Women Reservation

A total of 6 wards have been reserved for ST women candidates.
Ward numbers: 8A, 13B, 14B, 20B, 21A, 34B
