Nagpur Mankapur Harassment Case: Accused Sent to Police Custody Till April 23

Nagpur: In a major development from the Mankapur area of Nagpur, police have arrested Riyaz Kazi, allegedly associated with the Fikr Foundation, following serious complaints filed by women employees linked to the organisation. The complainants have accused the suspect of sexual harassment, mental harassment, intimidation, and coercion, prompting an immediate police investigation.

According to police sources, four women have so far come forward and registered complaints, after which the investigation was intensified.

Victims Allege Year-Long Harassment
As per the complainants, the accused had allegedly been harassing them for nearly a year. They claimed they were pressured to participate in certain religious activities against their will. The women further alleged that refusal led to threats of termination from employment and even threats to their lives.

Some complainants also alleged that attempts to resign from their jobs resulted in threats directed toward their family members.

Mankapur Police Launch Immediate Action
Taking serious note of the matter, Mankapur Police Station In-Charge Inspector Harsh Kalsekar reportedly initiated an inquiry on Saturday evening. Acting swiftly, the police team detained Riyaz Kazi the same night and brought him to the police station for questioning.

Court Sends Accused to Police Custody Till April 23
The accused was produced before a court on Sunday, where the magistrate ordered Police Custody Remand (PCR) till April 23. Investigators are now probing the matter in detail and are also looking into whether there may be additional victims.

Multiple Charges Registered
Police have registered a case against the accused under several provisions of law, including Sections 74, 75(2), 78(2), 296, 302(1), 356(2) and other relevant sections, along with Section 66 of the Information Technology Act. Officials said the legal process is underway and further charges may be added based on evidence gathered during the investigation.

Foundation Activities Under Scanner
According to police sources, investigators are also examining the organisation’s activities, the role of associated individuals, and any possible wider network connected to the allegations. Authorities stated that the privacy and safety of the complainants are being prioritised to ensure they can record statements without fear or pressure.

Notice Issued to Shut Down Organisation
Meanwhile, a notice has reportedly been issued regarding closure of the concerned institution, while senior officials are closely monitoring the case. Police stated that they are committed to taking the investigation to its logical conclusion and ensuring strict legal action if allegations are substantiated.
