Nagpur: A 56-year-old man from Ravinagar was swindled out of Rs 4.80 lakh by cybercriminals impersonating officials from the Mumbai Cyber Cell. The fraudsters threatened the victim, claiming a case had been filed against him and demanded money to clear his name.
The victim, identified as Mananprasad Tarachand Bhodekar, a resident of Ravi Nagar, Ambazari, lodged a complaint leading to a case being registered under Section 420 of the IPC. The police have since launched an investigation.
According to police reports, Bhodekar received a call around 10:45 am on April 30, 2024. The caller, pretending to be a Mumbai Cyber Cell official, deceived Bhodekar by claiming Rs 25 lakh had been credited to his Andheri-based bank account and that a case was registered against him, with an arrest imminent.
The fraudsters then offered a way out for Bhodekar in exchange for Rs 4.80 lakh, using intimidation tactics to persuade him to transfer the money.
Upon realizing the fraud, Bhodekar reported the incident to the Ambazari Police Station.
