Nagpur has 42.33 lakh voters, an increase by 1.16 lakh in last five years

Nagpur: As the population of Nagpur district has increased in the last five years, the number of voters has also gone up compared to the similar data five years ago. As per the data provided by the District Administration, there is an increase in the number of voters by 1.16 lakh this year as compared to the 2019 elections.

In 2019, there were 40.81 lakh voters in the district, and now in 2024, the number is 42.33 lakh. Out of 42,33,189 voters in Nagpur district, 21,39,896 are male, 20,93,428 are female and 281 are third gender (TG) who will exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

This year, the District Administration launched ‘Yuva In 2023-24’ to enroll a minimum 75,000 youth between 17-19 age group. The administration got success as it enrolled 88,449 young voters of 17-19 age group this year. However, this year, a total of 56,448 voters are in the 18 and 19 age group category. Among them, 29,111 are male, 27,332 are female and 5 are third gender (TG). In the 20-29 age group, there are a total 7,05,434 voters in Nagpur district, of which 3,65,413 are male and 3,39,887 are female voters. 134 voters of this age group are third gender, which is highest in any age group.

In the 30-39 age group, there are a total of 9,87,962 voters in Nagpur district, in which 4,77,417 are male and 5,10,459 are female voters. 86 voters of this age group in the district are TG. In the 40-49 age group, Nagpur district has 9,80,069 voters and among them, 4,99,837 are male and 4,80,203 are female voters. 29 voters of this category are TG. Similarly, from 50-59 age group, there are total 7,21,850 voters, in 60-69 age group there are 4,34,588 voters, in 70-79 age group there are 2,29,546 voters, and 80 plus age group has total 1,17,708 voters, who will exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Nagpur district has a total of 18,215 ‘Divyang’ voters, in which 10,455 are male and 7,780 are female. North Nagpur constituency has the highest number of voters in Nagpur city with 3,99,497 whereas Nagpur East is second with 3,84,089 voters. Whereas, in Nagpur rural, Kamptee constituency has the highest number of voters with 4,60,260, followed by Hingna with 4,20,302 voters.

For enrolment of new voters, the District Administration has reached nearly 472 colleges in the district and conducted 412 special workshops and camps for awareness among youth, said District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar in a press conference held at his office on Tuesday. There are a total of 3,81,522 application forms, which were filled by new voters this year and with this number, Nagpur district is fourth in the entire State.

For Lok Sabha elections, the administration will install 4474 polling booths in Nagpur district, of which, 2,386 will be installed in Nagpur rural and 2,088 booths will be installed in the city, said Dr Itankar.
