Nagpur: In a major relief for travellers from Vidarbha, Central Railway has decided to regularise the existing biweekly Nagpur-Goa special train, addressing a long-pending public demand.
Currently operating as a special service (Train No. 01139/01140) with additional charges, the train will now run as a regular express, Train No. 11203/11204, between Nagpur and Madgaon. The move is expected to bring greater reliability, better scheduling, and improved passenger convenience.
The Ajni-Madgaon Express presently takes nearly 24 hours to cover the distance, connecting Vidarbha with one of India’s most popular tourist destinations, Goa. Its regularisation is seen as a significant step in strengthening the tourism circuit between central India and the Konkan region.
As per the new schedule, Train No. 11203 Nagpur–Madgaon Express will depart from Nagpur at 3:05 pm every Wednesday and Saturday, reaching Madgaon at 5:45 pm the following day. In the return direction, Train No. 11204 Madgaon–Nagpur Express will leave Madgaon at 8:00 pm on Thursday and Sunday, arriving in Nagpur at 9:30 pm on Friday and Monday.
The train will halt at key stations including Wardha, Pulgaon, Dhamangaon, Badnera, Akola, Shegaon, Bhusaval, Nashik Road, Igatpuri, Kalyan, Panvel, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road, Thivim, and Karmali, ensuring broad regional connectivity.
The demand for regularisation had been consistently raised by the Rail Yatri Sangh, which argued that a permanent service would eliminate uncertainty associated with special trains.
Welcoming the move, RYS Secretary Brij Bhushan Shukla said the decision would bring much-needed relief to passengers. However, he urged the Railways to reduce travel time and rationalise halts, noting that the nearly 24-hour journey remains exhausting for travellers.
Railway officials stated that the regularisation will not only ensure dependable travel but also boost tourism and economic activity along the route.
