MSEDCL’s Regional Director for the Nagpur division, Paresh Bhagwat, has urged electricity consumers to take full advantage of this scheme.

This Central Government scheme, implemented effectively in the state under the leadership of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to provide free electricity to consumers who use up to 300 units per month and allow them to generate income by selling surplus electricity.

Bhagwat explained that under the Pradhanmantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, the Central Government provides a subsidy of Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW rooftop solar project, Rs 60,000 for a 2 kW project, and Rs 78,000 for a 3 kW or higher capacity project.

A 1 kW solar system generates around 120 units of electricity per month. This surplus electricity helps reduce electricity bills to zero, and any extra power can be sold back to MSEDCL. Additionally, solar energy not only helps protect the environment but also provides financial benefits to consumers.

Since the scheme’s launch in February, 48,202 electricity consumers across the state have installed rooftop solar projects, with a total power generation capacity of 192.03 MW, and they have been sanctioned a subsidy of Rs 319 crore. Furthermore, 2,41,178 applications have been received from consumers state-wide. Bhagwat emphasized the importance of more consumers joining the eco-friendly Pradhanmantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme to save electricity and money, and encouraged online registration to benefit from Mahavitaran’s rooftop solar initiative.

Rooftop solar systems generate electricity from sunlight, significantly lowering or even eliminating your monthly electricity bill. Any surplus electricity generated can often be sold back to the grid through net metering, allowing homeowners to earn extra income or credit.
