Nagpur: In a decisive outcome of the mayoral election at the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Nita Thakre of the Bharatiya Janata Party secured a resounding victory, polling 104 votes against 36 votes received by Snehal Thakre of the Indian National Congress. The 11 members from the neutral group played a decisive role in the final outcome.
With this win, Nita Thakre becomes the eighth woman Mayor of Nagpur, marking another milestone in the city’s civic leadership.
Simultaneously, Leela Hathibed was elected Deputy Mayor, also securing 104 votes. Once again, support from the neutral bloc proved crucial in clinching the post.
With both Mayor and Deputy Mayor positions now held by women, Nagpur’s municipal politics has entered a phase of dual female leadership-an outcome that has sparked wide discussion across the city’s political circles and raised expectations for accelerated urban development.
After assuming office, Mayor Nita Thakre outlined her priorities, emphasizing comprehensive city development. She pledged to intensify cleanliness drives, upgrade civic infrastructure, improve the quality and accessibility of citizen services, and roll out innovative initiatives for women’s empowerment. She also reaffirmed her commitment to steering Nagpur forward as a smarter and safer city.
Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed stated that her focus would be on making municipal governance more transparent, accountable, and people-centric. She assured residents that decisions would be taken inclusively and that citizen complaints would be addressed promptly.
With this new leadership in place, Nagpur residents are hopeful for tangible progress in key areas such as development works, sanitation, women’s empowerment, and overall civic amenities-expectations now firmly resting on the city’s newly elected women at the helm.
