Nagpur: In a major push for urban infrastructure development, Nagpur is set to benefit from a ₹25,567 crore Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) that aims to transform the city’s transportation network across both the urban and metropolitan regions.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Metro Bhawan in Nagpur. Present at the meeting were Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, and several local MLAs and officials.
“The CMP is a long-term strategic document that guides urban and freight transport systems,” said CM Fadnavis.
The CMP will include the construction of new roads, widening of congested junctions, development of safe pedestrian footpaths, modernized bus stops, improved city bus routes, and stronger connectivity between metro stations and public transport.
Fadnavis noted that although Nagpur’s current road network is relatively robust, the sharp rise in vehicle numbers and the city’s rapid expansion require a forward-thinking approach. He emphasized the importance of citizen participation, directing officials to gather public suggestions to enhance the plan’s effectiveness.
The plan is being implemented by MahaMetro, in alignment with guidelines from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The new CMP is based on extensive studies and consultations conducted under the supervision of the Divisional Commissioner.
The first version of Nagpur’s mobility plan was created in 2013 by the Nagpur Improvement Trust and later revised by MahaMetro in 2018. The latest version is being designed to meet future mobility challenges and ensure inclusive, sustainable, and efficient transport for all.
Present during the meeting were several key legislators from the Nagpur region including Ashish Jaiswal (Ramtek), Krishna Khopde, Pravin Datke, Sameer Meghe, and Charansingh Thakur.
