Nagpur: In his first decisive move as Nagpur’s newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Archit Chandak declared a zero-tolerance policy on people making reels or performing stunts on the roads. Taking charge from DCP Shashikant Satav on Thursday, Chandak has vowed to take firm steps to tackle the city’s worsening traffic situation.
Offenders making reels while driving or riding will face legal action, with their vehicles seized under Chandak’s new directives. The traffic department has been instructed to register cases immediately against these violators and ensure strict adherence to the legal process.
Chandak, who also oversees the city’s anti-accident cell, pledged to crack down on illegal activities, including drunken driving. He announced the introduction of focused checks starting at 6 pm until late into the night, especially around bars and pubs. “We will closely monitor these areas for those driving under the influence of alcohol,” Chandak stated.
The DCP also promised to bolster the anti-accident cell’s operations to provide in-depth analysis of crashes and road fatalities, emphasizing the importance of research to prevent such incidents. Additionally, Chandak highlighted the illegal nature of corner parking, warning that traffic police will intensify their crackdown on offenders. “Corner parking will not be tolerated anywhere in the city,” he added.
Further measures will aim to streamline traffic in crowded areas, such as bus stops and railway stations, where both pedestrians and vehicles contribute to congestion. In a bid for greater public cooperation, Chandak invited citizens to submit evidence of traffic violations through social media, encouraging community participation in penalizing offenders.
The new DCP’s swift actions and firm stance signal a fresh approach to Nagpur’s traffic woes, with a strong focus on safety and compliance.
