Nagpur daily editor Hazari booked in one more extortion case, extorted Rs 3 lakh from RTO broker

Nagpur: Sunil Suklal Hazari (44), an Editor of a local Hindi newspaper in Nagpur who has been arrested in an extortion case, has been booked in another case for extorting Rs 3 lakh from another RTO broker.

Earlier, Sunil Hazari was arrested by Sadar police while accepting Rs 80,000 extortion amount at Old VCA Stadium on Thursday. He was arrested following a complaint by a RTO agent, from whom the accused was extorting Rs 10 lakh. The accused had threatened RTO agent Titu Sharma that he would publish his name in connection with an ongoing probe into a scam at the RTO office.

Hazari, a resident of Rahul Residency, near ST Bus Stand, Fifth Floor, Ganeshpeth, reportedly pressured another RTO broker to extort Rs 1 lakh. Subsequently, the victim broker directly filed a written complaint against the accused Hazari to the Commissioner of Police. The name of the complainant RTO broker is Balraj Sahani.

According to sources, Sunil Hazari published a defamatory report against Balraj Sahni, a broker in RTO, in the month of July. Balraj requested Hazari not to defame him. However, Hazari also demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from him. Finally, a settlement was approved for Rs five lakh.

It is said that the extortionist Sunil Hazari has been working in Nagpur for the past few days to collect extortion by forming a gang of extortionist journalists. Therefore, in this case of extortion, the question has arisen as to who is the accomplice of the extortionist in Hazari’s gang.

It is said that the police have taken the matter seriously. The veils of many people will be torn in the investigation of the Sahani case. Frightened by this blackmailing, Hasani paid Rs 3 lakh in front of Hazari’s newspaper office on July 31. However, after that, Hazari was threatening Sahani over the phone for Rs 1 lakh more. He was suffering due to constant financial and mental harassment.

Hazari was threatening him over the phone for extortion. There has been uproar after an audio tape with the dialogue “Don’t give money to Tutecha, give money directly to me in front of the newspaper office” went viral in the media.

Five days ago, Sunil Hazari had demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh from RTO agent Titu Sharma for not publishing the news. However, Titu Sharma had given Hazari Rs 1 lakh and Rs 80,000 for fear of defamation. Sunil Hazari was arrested after he complained to the police before paying the remaining amount. Currently, Hazari is lodged in Nagpur Central Jail.
